How to Beat Sugar Cravings?

Stay Dr. Jekyll and keep Mrs. Hyde in the shadows by including lots of these healthy, yummy foods in your diet.

Sweet non-starchy vegetables:

  • Carrots
  • Green beans
  • Sweet peppers
  • Beets
  • Cucumber
  • Tomato
  • Sweet onions
  • Wheatgrass

Eat these in a balance of many other non-starchy vegetables, healthy protein and healthy fats. If you are doing keto or low carb, know your carb count.

Sweet Herbs:

  • Peppermint
  • Spearmint
  • Stevia plant
  • Fennel
  • Basil
  • Chamomile
  • Marigolds
  • Parsley
  • Pansies
  • Roses
  • Rosemary
  • Saffron

Sweet Spices:

  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla
  • Cloves
  • Nutmeg
  • Pumpkin Spice: 4 parts cinnamon, 2 parts ginger, 1 part allspice, 1 part nutmeg

Sweet Healthy Fats

  • Coconut Oil
  • Ghee from grass fed cows
  • Avocado (know your carb count)

 Healthy Sugar Substitutes:

  • Stevia
  • Erythritol

 

If you are working on losing weight I would limit any of the following to no more than one serving per week. And immediately after a workout would be the best time to have any of these.

Berries…If you are working on weight loss, I would stick to berries when it comes to fruit. Berries as dessert after dinner would be a great way to do this.

Sweet Starchy Vegetables:

  • Sweet potato
  • Yam
  • Taro
  • Pumpkin

Kombucha Tea has a yummy bitter sweet taste. As this fermented tea is exposed to the air it becomes less bitter and more sweet. Kombucha is available in many flavors at Publix. My favorites are Multi-Green and Rasberry Chia.
